PS #26.5: Continuing The Greenhouse

It was a big jump from PS #26 to PS #27, and we, Kenric and Arin, want to catch you all up onto the work that has been done on the greenhouse. Starting from the first addition, a computer fan. Since the summer weather makes the greenhouse really hot for the plants, and even moreContinue reading “PS #26.5: Continuing The Greenhouse”

PS #26: Wrapping Up The Dome

Today, we finally finished wrapping the greenhouse. After multiple trials, failures, rips, and tears, we were able to secure the plastic shrink wrap. The first time we tried to shrink-wrap the greenhouse, it failed horrendously. To start, we weren’t used to the heat gun, so the wrap was inconsistent in many places over the dome.Continue reading “PS #26: Wrapping Up The Dome”

PS #13: Mini Hydroponics

Today, we deepened our understanding of hydroponics by creating a scaled-down version of our hydroponics system. Using smaller PVC pipes with pre-drilled holes, we set out to model the entire system. This allowed us to visualize and analyze the flow of water throughout the entire completed system and how efficiently water would reach each plantContinue reading “PS #13: Mini Hydroponics”

PS #12: Hydroponics Explained

When it came to designing our greenhouse, we had some ambitious goals: to be space-efficient, water-efficient, and energy-efficient. We realized that the best way to achieve these goals was by incorporating hydroponics into our system. Hydroponics isn’t just a trend in modern agriculture; it’s a revolutionary method that aligns with our goals of sustainability andContinue reading “PS #12: Hydroponics Explained”

PS #11: Completed Hydroponics

Today, we finished the entire hydroponics system, allowing water to flow seamlessly from the reservoir, through the system, and all the way back to the reservoir. We used the same format as the first pipe to make two other identical pipes. We connected the first pipe with an intake hose attached to the pump, andContinue reading “PS #11: Completed Hydroponics”

PS #10: Upgrading The Greenhouse

Today, we focused on furthering the greenhouse, making a proper entrance for it, and starting to put together the hydroponics system. To start, we had to make a doorframe to eventually put to the door in. To achieve this, we used the left over planter box wood and cut it to the measurements of theContinue reading “PS #10: Upgrading The Greenhouse”

PS #4: Building The Inner Wall

Today, we finished building the inner wall of the greenhouse. Constructing the wall wasn’t just about sticking pieces together; it was a meticulous process that required precise measuring and careful planning. To start, everyone had to disassemble the planter boxes, which involved two hours of back-breaking labor, crouching down and drilling out multiple screws fromContinue reading “PS #4: Building The Inner Wall”

PS #3: Dome Design

From the countless designs stores like Walmart and Target offered for the dome, the geodesic shape stuck out like a sore thumb. One reason is its resilience. The triangular components of the dome distribute stress evenly across the structure, making it incredibly resilient against external forces such as strong winds that could be harmful duringContinue reading “PS #3: Dome Design”

PS #2: The First Day

Waking up at 7:00 am sharp was a jarring change to what my sleep schedule used to be when summer started. When I arrived at the farm, we got straight to work making the base for the greenhouse. Even though it was the first day, there were a lot of tasks to be completed. DueContinue reading “PS #2: The First Day”

PS #1: Designing the Greenhouse

Planning the greenhouse was not going to be a simple task. Every single measurement has to be precise and accurate to make sure the entire structure is symmetrical and looks neat. Everyone submitted their own design on how the greenhouse should look. However one of the most important parts was figuring out how many plantsContinue reading “PS #1: Designing the Greenhouse”
